Daily Deviation

Given 2008-08-22
Choosing just one piece to feature from *jdjartist's gallery was a hard task... there's a lot of mind candy there. La Dolorosa has the right amount of skill, oddity and style to put forth a story for you to wonder and explore. ( Featured by stigmatattoo )

Oh, I'm horrible with acrylics; I find them very frustrating! Dayum, that takes some commitment! Maybe I'm just weird about opaque paints. :lmao:

That is amazing and makes me think of the Virgin and Jesus, of death and the passion, I guess thats due to the title and the halo round the skeleton child of death and the scars on the woman from thorns or being whipped? this is amazing and will have me thinking about it all day.

"La Dolorosa" is Spanish for "The Suffering One" or "The Pained One"!

There must be such a story behind this, its wonderful and atmospheric and I like the heavy use of blues. La Dolorosa means woman of sadness, or something similar in Spanish, doesn't it?

It sure does have a story... I did this piece after my ex-girlfriend and I broke up and I was going through some crazy family stuff, so this painting served as the perfect outlet for my emotions at the time!

Yeah, I love the look of oil paints, but when I used oils in art school, I would start getting nose bleeds! So I had to switch over to acrylics, which helped at bit more when I did freelance work because they dried so fast.
